Join the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for a webcast on how the COVID-19 pandemic presents a unique opportunity to better understand the effects of a disease outbreak on the delivery of high-quality cancer care and research.
Hear how the ASCO Survey on COVID-19 in Oncology Registry (ASCO Registry) is collecting information about patterns of symptoms and severity of COVID-19 infection, the influences on the delivery of cancer care, and decision-making for future disease outbreaks.
Dr. Richard L. Schilsky, ASCO’s Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President, will discuss the critical need to capture and analyze this longitudinal data, review the data collection process, and outline future registry deliverables.
Dr. Randall A. Oyer, Medical Director, Oncology Program, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, and ACCC President, will discuss his experience as a participating practice in the ASCO Registry and how his program intends to use the data.
As part of the 2020-2021 ACCC President’s Theme, Community Oncology Can Close the Gap in Cancer Research, ACCC is exploring the impact of COVID-19 on all facets of cancer care, including the administration of—and patient access to—clinical trials. Learn how participating in the ASCO Registry will support this work.

Randall A. Oyer, MD
Medical Director, Oncology Program, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and ACCC President
Randall A. Oyer, MD, is a practicing medical oncologist at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute at Penn Medicine Lancaster General in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He serves as the Medical Director of the Cancer Institute, Medical Director of Oncology, Chairman of Cancer Committee, Chair of the Oncology Physicians Advisory Council, and Medical Director of the Cancer Risk Evaluation (Cancer Genetics) Program at Penn Medicine Lancaster General. Dr. Oyer is a member of the Cancer Service Line Executive Committee and the Cancer Service Line Quality Committee at the Abramson Cancer Center─University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Dr. Oyer divides his time among patient care, program administration, program development, and community outreach. He works closely with a multidisciplinary team that comprises nursing, social work, pharmacy, chaplaincy, and medical specialties focused on strategy, implementation, and patient care. A long-standing active member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC), Dr. Oyer is currently serving on the Board of Trustees. He is also an ex-officio Commissioner of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, representing the ACCC.
Dr. Oyer is serving co-chair of the Advisory Committee for the ACCC Optimal Care Coordination Model for Lung Cancer Patients on Medicaid education project. He is an active member of the ACCC Governmental Affairs Committee, participating in Capitol Hill visits and advocating on behalf of community cancer care. Previously, Dr. Oyer served as an Advisory Committee member for the ACCC Molecular Testing education project, and he has presented a several ACCC meetings.
In addition to his participation in ACCC, he has served as a member of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Ambulatory Payment Classification Panel and of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Clinical Practice Committee.
Dr. Oyer is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Richard Schilsky, MD
ASCO Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President
Dr. Schilsky is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Executive Vice President of ASCO. Formerly the Chief of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine and Deputy Director of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center, he is a highly respected leader in the field of clinical oncology. He specializes in new drug development and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Schilsky is a Past President of ASCO, having served in the role during 2008-2009, and is also a Past Chair of one of the National Cancer Institute’s Cooperative Groups, Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB).
Dr. Schilsky’s impressive experience and many accomplishments in both clinical medicine and clinical research reflect his deep passion for cancer medicine. He has spent the majority of his career at the University of Chicago, where he joined the faculty in 1984, subsequently rising to the rank of Professor of Medicine and serving in many roles, including Associate Dean for Clinical Research in the Biological Sciences Division and Director of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center.
From 1995 to 2010, Dr. Schilsky served as Chair of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), a national cooperative clinical research group funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He has extensive experience working with both the NCI and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) having served as a member and chair of the NCI Board of Scientific Advisors, as a member of the NCI Clinical and Translational Research Committee, and as a member and chair of the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee of the FDA. Dr. Schilsky has served on the editorial boards of many cancer journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He presently serves on the editorial board of the New England Journal of Medicine.
Early in his career, he worked in the Clinical Pharmacology Branch of the Division of Cancer Treatment at the NCI and was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. He was also the head of the hematology/medical oncology unit at the Harry S. Truman Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
