Derek B. Allison, MD is an associate professor and the vice chair for Research in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He holds additional roles as director of the Molecular Tumor Board and assistant director and quality officer of the Biospecimen Procurement and Translational Pathology Shared Resource Facility (BPTP SRF) at the Markey Cancer Center. Dr. Allison received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed residency and subspecialty fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research interests include improving small sample diagnostics, molecular biomarker characterization, spatial imaging analysis, and prostate cancer research.
Justine Pickarski
Genetic Counselor and Assistant Director, Molecular Tumor Board
University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center
Justine Pickarski is a licensed genetic counselor and serves as the assistant director for the Molecular Tumor Board at the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and her Master of Science degree in genetic counseling from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. During her genetic counseling training she completed the Cancer Prevention Research Training Program (CPRTP) at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Ms. Pickarski has been involved with Markey’s Molecular Tumor Board since its inception in 2016 and in January 2024, she transitioned from her clinical genetic counselor role into a full-time position with the Molecular Tumor Board (MTB), where she hopes to help expand the scope of the MTB and ensure providers and patients across the state have access to precision medicine.
